Getting a Raccoon Out of a Tree

Raccoons can be fun to watch, but if you spot one in your tree, your first thought may be how to get it to come down. Even though Oklahoma City raccoons can be interesting to watch from a distance, you probably don’t want one hanging around your property as they can cause a wide variety of damage and can be carriers of diseases that could be a threat to humans. There are several methods you can use to get a raccoon out of a tree, and of course some are more effective than others. Make sure you take care of the problem quickly before the Oklahoma raccoon gets too comfortable.

How they get into trees
Raccoons have the capability of climbing trees, especially when you leave the bark unprotected. The rough texture of the trunks makes it so easy for the Oklahoma raccoons to gain the much needed traction.

How to get them off
If you are not sure what to do, you should get an Oklahoma City professional that will do the work for you. The raccoon will not remain in the tree forever. It will have to move to get food or water. You may also use traps to have the raccoon relocated.

Raccoon proof the tree
Once it has been removed successfully, you need to make sure that your tree is inaccessible to it in the future. Start by cutting off any branches that are hanging low. You should remove all entrances that are within 36 inches from the ground. You should now make a collar for the trunk with a piece of sheet metal that is about 36 inches in length and 3 inches wider than the circumference of the trunk. This is what you wrap on the tree.

If you see an Oklahoma City raccoon in a tree on your property, you should take action to get it out of the tree and away from your property as soon as possible to prevent it from causing any damage. Prevention is of course the best cure, so even though it might take a little time and effort, you should take the necessary steps to keep raccoons out of your trees in the first place. You will be very happy you did when you don’t have to deal with an Oklahoma raccoon problem later on. Follow the advice mentioned above and you will be in good shape.
